Well, a couple days ago I finally ordered a new desktop (SandyBridge) and just like that, my laptop decides to shit on me. The SandyBridge motherboard was recalled, so I'm still using my laptop for a few more weeks until they are re-released. This laptop runs as if it has 100 Trojans, with frame rates in games being dropped by roughly 80%, and all streaming videos other than Hulu unwatchable.
I'm sorry laptop, but I gotta move on.

have you tried reformatting? it will speed your computer up immensely (like brand new).
ReplyDeleteCats outlast laptops, at least that's nice. Also, my laptop of 4 years is hunkering along, but I'm not oblivious to its obvious age. I have two dead pixel lines on my screen. But otherwise its still kicking, I upgraded the RAM about 2 years ago and switched to Windows 7 when that came out. I'm sure if my laptop was still having the heart attack Vista gave it, it would have died a year ago.

ReplyDeleteIs the laptop physically broken, or is it just your OS (Windows?) that's full of junk slowing everything down? You might be able to get some more life out of it with a bit of maintenance.
ReplyDeleteDon't buy a new laptop just because of viruses. If you got 100 trojans on one laptop odds are you will get 100 more trojans on your next laptop. Here are two alternative options for you:
ReplyDelete(1) use HiJackThis, a program, to search through all load points in your operating system. Google every program name in the list and if it turns out to be a virus, remove each infected file. This can get rid of 90% of the viruses out there.
(2) If you don't want to get technical, then what you can do is backup all files that you want to keep, then reinstall your laptop's operating system. As long as you don't have a virus hiding in your master boot record then this will get them all. You can use the Recovery Console on your windows CD to fix your master boot record.
Sorry to hear about your laptop. I prefer desktop over laptop anytime, because a desktop is cheaper, easier to upgrade and lasts longer.
